As a graphic student my first ever music poster was an Elliott Smith one. I'd just discovered The Royal Tenenbaums movie by Wes Anderson, whose soundtrack featured one or two songs by Elliott Smith, and I kept Needle In The Hay in my head for a while. While browsing the web I recently found out that he and Belle And Sebastian, one of my favorite "pop" bands, had played a few gigs together in Great Britain and this made me want to do a poster for them.
I had a few ideas but the one I wanted to do most was that of a boy leaving his (light)house with only his books (the one he's reading goes by Miss Misery, one of my favorite song by Elliott Smith), his best friend (named Belle for the occasion), leaving his parents mesmerized and quite in panic while our hero seems in a very quiet state of mind.
I had a lot of fun doing it, hope you'll like it too.
RIP Elliott Smith.
