1993 was an amazing year for Hip Hop. So many LPs were released this year that are now considered absolute classics.
Amongst them was Guru (of Gang Starr)'s take on Jazz music, gathering a list of artists that he only could gather, taking into account his wide knowledge of music and his love to put on the map new talents.
Hence the successful Jazzmatazz Volume 1 has seen the likes of Donald Byrd (whose very trumpet designed by Dick Akright of Bel Canto I put on the poster to show my appreciation of the first track of the Lp, which perfectly sets the tone in an harmony of trumpet, piano and Guru's beautiful voice) to MC Solaar and Roy Ayers.
All in all, this LP is actually 3 LPs, it is a Jazz piece, a Hip Hop LP, and a fusion of the 2.
