Lately I've been listening to a lot of music that was sampled by Hip Hop artists, some I already knew of and some I didn't. My parents used to listen a lot to Roy Ayers so I already knew a lot of it (definitely not most of it as he's been the prolific type), yet it was a big surprise for me to realize how much his music's been sampled.
And that for a good reason, his sound is uncomparable, which is why he's been referred to as a "vibe" musician, which I would assume stands for his music being jazz, funk, soul…You name it, he's done it. Except he's done it in his unique, almost magic style.
No one sounds like Roy Ayers. The instrument he's most famous for is the vibraphone so I went for it as part of my Jazz prints.
