I have a kind of special relation to The Shins which bonds me to them in loving terms. I discovered the band around 2003, when both Oh, Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow were already out, and immediately fell in love with them. The funny aspect of that being that only after a month or so I went to see Garden State at the theater, and if you've seen the movie you might remember Nathalie Portman telling Zach Braf how he should give a listen to The Shins, that it might change his life…
I could agree on that.
I like a band that puts nice videos too. And creativity has always played an essential role in The Shins videos. Now, as much as I am not that keen on Port of Morrow, that first song, The Rifle's Spiral, is quite the best entrance to an LP that I've ever heard. The song is short, fast actually, beautifully sang and when you see its video…Amazing job.
For my new series on songs from other genres (than Hip Hop I mean) I wanted to pay tribute to both song and video, thus I took those weird, tall looking guys that are part of the video in a composition which gathers, magic, intrigue in a bit of a Catch Me If You Can look.
Hope you like it.
