Mars Blackmon is a character that Spike Lee played in his movie "She's gotta have it". A fan of Michael Jordan and sneakers, it was only right that Nike would hire him to produce the commercials for the Air Jordans III, IV and V. The funny commercials take Spike Lee to the court with M.J. in a David VS Goliath type of game…but the focus remains the sneakers!
The Air Jordan IIIs were released in 1988, still without swoosh, they were amongst these new mid-cut basketball shoes that Nike was introducing, and included for the first time the elephant print, which became a trademark for the Air Jordan line.
