For a while I had been thinking I was over working on Tribe Called Quest prints, I had already 3 prints done that I really like and cover different eras of the band, and so naturally I thought I might have to cool off doing this except, for the most beautiful reasons, the group recorded their 6th (and last) LP during 2016 and the result, you probably already know if you are looking at this print, is a true masterpiece from a band that never made it the easy way, but rather kept working from the heart.
Then I decided that creating artwork of your favorite artists doesn't need limits, and this is how I started thinking of doing something with The Space Program. Now, I didn't want to focus on the political aspect of the song, but I did want to keep politics somewhere, and this is how I came with the idea of placing the Black Planet from Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet". It just found its place perfectly, and you couldn't get a more political idea than that could you…?
I also wanted to stick with the 4 first covers of the band, with the red, green, black and yellow colors and organic streams, then I got this little amplified (Q-tip song anyone?) satellite throwing good vibes at the people and it all came out nice together.
After all, that is what A Tribe Called Quest did for almost 30 years.
(PS: you will find also a tiny Donut/ Dilla planet and galaxy in there…He produced ATCQ's The Love Movement LP so I thought it'd be only right…)
