Continuing my new series on Hip Hop classics, I am happy to present my interpretation of De La Soul's " A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays" from their 1991 " DE LA SOUL IS DEAD" LP.
Now, as much as the band wanted to separate from the hippy image that the "3 Feet & Rising" LP had brought them, there is too much of that late-80s happily-hippy in that track to be denied. Prince Paul produced the track co-starring Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest (and 1 or 2 apparitions of Dres from Black Sheep), which makes it one of the ultimate Native Tongues track to me.
