Now I've been asked (for good reasons) multiple times to do a Gang Starr print. Which I wanted to, but was a little touchy about the outcome, Gang Starr being one of my alltime favorite. Plus I'd already done a Jazzmatazz print, obviously more focused on the Guru side, so in order to balance I wanted to do something more on the "Preemo" side, but keep it Gang Starr…
Recently I started listening a lot to Ahmad Jamal, which turned out to be the author of "The Awakening", the track that was sampled on the interlude starting the side B of the No More Mr Nice Guy LP entitled "DJ Premier in deep concentration", and it all made sense as for the who and what, and then I thought it also made perfect sense to put it in the series I'd started with Lord Finesse's SP1200 files, by making a visual of the Technics MK2 used by DJ Premier putting on it the Ahmad Jamal record, as in deep concentration before producing the interlude joint.
