Da Sound Of Da Police is not only KRS-ONE's most famous track, it is also one that still resonates today both for its content and for being a classical, one of the most vibrating track in Hip Hop history. The WOOP WOOP !! DATS DA SOUND OF DA POLICE has heads banging both in the streets and in the clubs.
With the recent release of KRS-ONE's Street Light LP, and very likely with the New York Marathon being just a few ago as well as this summer's When They See Us (a very good Netflix TV show in case you haven't heard about it), I guess my mind started putting together a vision of the MC from the Bronx's song "Da sound of da police" as a poster inspired by the NYC marathon, except this one is a "run for your life" type of marathon, with cops targeting at runners…
KRS-ONE yells "WATCH OUT ! WE RUN NEW-YOK" in the first verse of the song, which can both be interpreted as "we rule NY" and "we run IN New-York", as we've heard a lot amongst runners.
So this helped frame the general idea for the poster, and with a little research I came with the NYC marathon's early nineties colors and organisation.
