Remember when sleeve of your tapes were like a fresh wagon for you to put your (graffiti) bombing on? Waiting for the local Hip Hop radio show to start then press Record and listen to that tape over and over?
In the early to mid nineties a radio show held in a NY campus by to friends who'd only recently met around the same passion for Hip-Hop helped set on a map some of the most famous names in Hip Hop today. But not only that, the Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show was an infinite source for Hip Hop heads to listen to for 5 hours on Thursday nights for about 5 years.
Nas came with his crew to introduce Illmatic, The Hieroglyphics came from Oakland to perform a crazy freestyle, Big Daddy Kane had people nodding their heads throughout the city…
I choose to write down on my cassette tape after Big L & Jay-Z, who had a 7 minutes long freestyle on a slow, haunting Milkbone beat . What's crazy about this freestyle is not only the fact that both MCs are on top of their game, but more the fact that Jay-z was Big L's guest, not the opposite.
You need to listen to this track if you don't know it.
