I've been asked for a Notorious BIG artwork for quite sometime and really I did want to do one but I was having a rough time finding the perfect match to something Big Poppa's fans could relate to and something that would feel loyal to my type of work.
That was until I was struck (again) by the Sky's The Limit video and how I could apply it to a Simpsons artwork.
See, the story of the track is the story of underdogs making it big (BIG) in life. Now, as Biggie passed before the video could be shot the director in charge choose to showcase kids impersonating major characters in Big's late life, meaning Puffy, Faith Evans…
So what I did is I choose Ralph Wiggum, the most unlikely to be successful amongst Matt Groening's The Simpsons, a character who's very often bullied or made fun of, and whose name just happens to start with the letters WIG…
I thus took the baddest kids out of the Simpsons and made them big ballers…
Lots of Biggie references in there…Bart (as Puffy) on the cellular phone with a gold necklace with a letter B taken directly from the Bad Boy Entertainment logo (and lying on a pink swimming mattress, the color of the Cam'ron/ Bart awesome artwork), Kearney is wearing a Ready To Die t-shirt, Milhouse is drinking a Duff beer while playing with Santa's Little Helper (whose mouth is full of cash…), Jimbo is standing next to an Utica bottle of champagne, Lisa is dressed like a Faith Evans while coming out of the Limo driven by Tahiti Bob…
Not to forget Biggie himself, as a statue in front of, well, Mr Burns' house! That's right, the kids took it.
