Some might say that acclaimed producer/ rapper extraordinaire Madlib has reached his pinnacle with the MadGibbs albums. Indeed, the collaboration with Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs has brought somewhat of a soulful Tupac Shakur reminiscing, even though having a style of his own, the Thug Life oriented lyrics and storytelling couldn't help many but to find in Gibbs a thoughtful yet gangsta, charismatic artist whose stories, delivered in pure west coast flow, couldn't find a better raw yet very soul sound than Madlib's.
I already wanted to work on Pinata (MadGibb's first LP) for a while but after Bandana came out this year, with an overall imagery that fitted in my series of Madlib's works (with Doom as Madvillain & J. Dilla as Jaylib), I thought I might as well go with Bandana.
Here we have reminiscing of iconic Peanuts characters Gibbs and Madlib as alter ego Quasimoto re-working the red doghouse into the zebra black and white colors while placing the Hollywood letters on top, as featured on the Bandana's artwork by Jeff Jank.
Now, Quasimoto is kinda standing on a pinata horse so I guess we still have that pinata idea going on…
